The Lifeboat launched today at 12.30 pm tasked to go approximately 25 miles south west of Lizard Point to reports of an upturned 8 metre fishing vessel adrift. No casualties were discovered and it appeared the vessel had been in the water for some time. Falmouth Coastguard carried out further investigations and from the markings on the vessel it was identified as a boat reported missing from St Martins, Isles of Scilly some weeks previously. Considered a shipping hazard, the boat was righted and a tow attached. It was towed to the entrance of Newlyn Harbour where our colleagues from Penlee took over the tow to a safe berth in the harbour. The Lizard Lifeboat returned to Kilcobben for re-housing at 7pm.
