The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat was launched on service shortly after 9.30pm on Saturday 8th August to Halzephron beach, Gunwalloe. A 999 call from a member of the public to the Coastguard reported seeing “an orange object” on rocks but appeared to be above the waterline? On arrival on scene the smaller Y-boat was deployed from RNLB Rose to carry out a closer in-shore investigation at the foot of the cliff. Mullion Coastguards were also in attendance and guided the lifeboat to the scene with search lights from the cliff top. It was found the “orange object” was fishing equipment most likely fallen from a vessel and washed ashore. No sign of casualties and after retrieving the abandoned equipment the lifeboat returned to station to Kilcobben. Thank you to all involved with this service and to Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team for their assistance.
