New Year Honours List - Rachel Tonkin BEM

Many congratulations to Rachel Tonkin on being  awarded a British Empire Medal in the 2020 New Year Honours list to mark 50 years of fundraising for the RNLI.

Lizard born and bred Rachel and her family have a long association with the RNLI with son Jonathan a past Lizard Lifeboat crew member and grandson Ryan currently a serving crew member.  She has spent the last 50 years fundraising on behalf of the RNLI at and for The Lizard Lifeboat Station beginning in 1970 as part of The Lizard Lifeboat Ladies Guild where she was their secretary and souvenir sales organiser.

With the re-building of the boathouse and arrival of our Tamar Lifeboat RNLB “Rose” in 2012, it was all change. The present active Lizard Lifeboat Fund Raising Group was formed with Rachel progressing effortlessly onto its committee where she is currently the Box Secretary.

Well done Rachel, congratulations and thank you. What a wonderful and proud achievement!

From all of us at The Lizard Lifeboat Station ….
